How Arkansas withholding works
Arkansas's 2026 rate cut explained
The Arkansas legislature has passed a series of rate reductions over recent years. For 2026 the top bracket falls to 3.70% from 3.9%, continuing that downward trend. The cut applies at the top of the progressive scale: if your income sits below the top bracket, your marginal rate is lower. The $2,470 standard deduction is subtracted before any bracket rates apply.
How Arkansas progressive brackets work
Arkansas taxes income progressively, starting at 2% on the bottom tranche and stepping up to 3.70% at the top. Because each bracket applies only to income inside it, most workers pay an effective rate well below 3.70%. Pre-tax deductions like a 401(k) or health-plan premiums reduce your Arkansas taxable income as well.
Rates & brackets
Arkansas's 2026 income tax rates
Arkansas taxes income in graduated brackets. Only the income inside each band is taxed at that band's rate. Here is the 2026 schedule for a single filer:
| Taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| $0 – $5,600 | 0% |
| $5,600 – $11,200 | 2% |
| $11,200 – $16,000 | 3% |
| $16,000 – $26,400 | 3.4% |
| $26,400 and up | 3.7% |
Standard deduction applied: $2,470 (single), $2,470 (married filing jointly). Brackets apply to income after this deduction.
How the calculator withholds: Paycheck withholding follows Arkansas's official 2026 withholding formula: a $2,470 standard deduction, income looked up at the midpoint of each $100 band, the rates above (with a small adjustment between about $94,700 and $97,600 of taxable income), and a $29 tax credit per exemption (one if single, two if married or head of household). Employers moved from the 3.9% to the 3.7% top rate partway through 2026.
